The third edition of the Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN) expands the scientific areas with life sciences. The symposium will feature world-class leaders in deep learning in Barcelona on 22 and 23 December.

Barcelona will host this December the third edition of Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN). Deep learning (DeepLearning in English) is one of the engines of the current technological revolution around artificial intelligence. This has been implemented in almost all audiovisual fields, such as speech recognition by virtual assistants or photo file organizers. The trend has spread to the field of life sciences, with applications for the development of new drugs or support for medical diagnosis. For this reason, the symposium opens this 2021 a session with applications to genomics, nutrition, detection of COVID-19 from cough, or medical imaging.

The Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium has the aim to highlight the research developed in Barcelona, bringing together top-level researchers who are either currently developing their research in the city, or have pursued part of their academic career here. The symposium will host 32 talks and 41 posters from local research laboratories, universities abroad like Stanford, MIT or Columbia, and multinational companies like as Meta, Amazon, NVidia and ElementAI.

The first keynote speaker will be Joan Bruna, professor at New York University and co-author of "Geometric Deep Learning", one of the most impactful books in the field during 2021. The symposium will also feature talks by other researchers such as Elisenda Bou, who has made possible the landing Apple to the city after the acquisition of her startup Vilynx, and Joan Serrà, a pioneer in the application of neural networks to audio processing from the research laboratory that Dolby has in Barcelona.

The symposium is organized by various local institutions and companies in the field of artificial intelligence. It will take place on December 22nd and 23rd at the UPC Campus Nord, and registration is available for free from this page. The event is sponsored by Meta AI (Facebook), Glovo, the UAB Computer Vision Center (CVC), the UOC eHealth Center and the UPC School of Telecommunications.

La tercera edició del Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN) amplia l’àmbit temàtic a les ciències de la vida. El simposi comptarà amb referents mundials en aprenentatge profund que es reuniran a Barcelona els dies 22 i 23 de desembre.

Barcelona acollirà a mitjans de desembre la tercera edició del simposi sobre l’aprenentatge profund, el Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN). L’aprenentatge profund (Deep Learning en anglès) és un dels motors de l’actual revolució tecnològica al voltant de la intel·ligència artificial. Aquest s’ha implantat en gairebé tots els camps audiovisuals, com el reconeixement de la parla dels assistents virtuals o els organitzadors d’arxius fotogràfics. La tendència s’ha estès al camp de les ciències de la vida, amb aplicacions per al desenvolupament de nous fàrmacs o el suport al diagnòstic mèdic. Per aquest motiu, el simposi estrena aquest 2021 una sessió amb aplicacions a la genòmica, la nutrició, la detecció del COVID-19 a partir de la tos, o la imatge mèdica.

El Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium destaca la recerca que es fa a Barcelona amb xarxes neuronals profundes, reunint investigadors de primer nivell mundial que, o bé desenvolupen actualment la seva recerca a la ciutat comtal, o bé s’hi van formar però ara treballen a l’estranger. El simposi acollirà 32 xerrades i 41 pòsters de laboratoris de recerca del país, universitats estrangeres com Stanford, l’MIT o Columbia, i empreses com Meta, Amazon, NVidia o ElementAI.

Entre els ponents, destaca la presència de Joan Bruna, professor de la New York University i co-autor de “Geometric Deep Learning”, un dels llibres amb més impacte en el camp aquest 2021. El simposi comptarà també amb xerrades d'altres investigadors destacats, com ara Elisenda Bou, artífex de l’arribada d’Apple a la ciutat mitjançant la venda de la seva startup Vilynx, i Joan Serrà, pioner en l’aplicació de les xarxes neuronals al processament d’àudio des del laboratori de recerca que Dolby té a Barcelona.

El simposi està organitzat per les diverses institucions locals i empreses en el camp de la intel·ligència artificial. Es realitzarà els dies 22 i 23 de desembre al Campus Nord de la UPC, i la inscripció és gratuïta i accessible des d’aquesta pàgina. L’esdeveniment compta amb els patrocinis de Meta AI (Facebook), Glovo, el Centre de Visió per Computador (CVC) de la UAB, l’eHealth Center de la UOC i l’escola de telecomunicacions de la UPC.
