Coming Fall 2026, The Beacon will have three vacant positions on the newsletter team. These positions are open to rising middle and high school students. If you are interested in writing for our art community, are a motivated and organized person, and are looking for meaningful and impactful volunteer work, consider applying!
Editors should expect to dedicate about 4-5 hours every first half of the month to the newsletter, as well as stay alert to any messages during the non-publishing half of the month. Here are some of the monthly responsibilities expected of the editor position:
Have consistent access to technology like WhatsApp, Google Docs, and Google Sites.
Be able to reach out to community members and organizations to collect information for articles.
Write articles that are consistent with a newsletter/blog writing style with correct grammar, appropriate tone, and clarity.
Communicate and problem-solve with teammates in the WhatsApp group chat.
Stick to a strict monthly release schedule and write articles promptly.
Attend any relevant newsletter meetings.
And more!
Timeline-wise, The Beacon is looking to recruit and interview individuals in June and early July, and have those selected shadow current editors for the July and August editions. The new team will then take on full responsibility starting September!
