Have you heard of the Japanese word “ikigai”? “Ikigai” translates to “worth living”. It urges us to find our true purpose, and challenge ourselves. One way to try and apply “ikigai” to your life? Interact with your community around you.
We have gotten a chance to do just that, thanks to the invitation from NW Folklife to run a booth at their Annual Festival. This year, the event’s theme is “ikigai”.
In previous years at this event, our school has run successful workshops through WA Cultural Traditions. So, this year, NW Folklife reached out to us directly, urging us to run a Madhubani stall for one of the three days of the event! Our school will run a stall on May 24th, from 12-8 pm, located at the Seattle Center.
This opportunity is open to all artists who have completed the sun project. As a volunteer, you will take a 2.5 - 3 hour shift, and host activities and live paintings for the visitors.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to take “ikigai” to heart– and gain PVSA hours! Contact Ms. Nikita Thakalath as soon as possible.

Our students are excited to participate in Gurukul’s Cultural Demo Day on Sunday, March 23rd at North Creek High School.
Practice for the art-ramp-walk has begun, with Ms. Srujana Babu choreographing the performance. Students will also give short presentations on their paintings and take questions from Gurukul students, teachers, and parent volunteers.
Additionally, this event will feature paintings by Kathith’s traditional artists from North, South, East, and West India, showcasing diverse artistic styles. Participation for this event is now closed, but we look forward to a wonderful showcase and similar future opportunities!
