On Saturday, July 11th, Kathith hosted a free workshop that taught participants how to draw Lord Ganesha in the Pattachitra style. Pattachitra is a folk art form from Odisha characterized by its intricate detailing and bold outlines. Its subjects are typically characters and deities from Hindu mythology, who are rendered in black ink and geometric patterns.
The workshop was hosted by experienced Pattachitra artist Ashish Das, whose artwork has been featured in prestigious places from the residence of the President of India to an article in the BBC. He demonstrated classic techniques from his art form to his Kathith students, teaching them how to render the complicated designs and balanced proportions that Pattachitra demands.
If you were unable to attend the session but are excited about the chance to practice this incredible art form, a full recording of the session is now available for only $10. We sincerely thank Ashish Das for taking the time to pass on his wealth of knowledge to Kathith students. Feel free to explore our Kathtih website for more information!
