I finally got the opportunity to visit a country that has been on my list for a while now! Malta is a small island nation located in the Mediterranean sea. As this was my last trip as a 21 year old so I decided to take my first solo trip. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely do it again.
So, I left for the airport at 4am and started my trip. I got to the airport with plenty of time and after a delayed boarding I was on my way. When I landed on the small island I grabbed a quick breakfast at the airport and then started my day. My first stop was the local aquarium. I felt quite old since I was there with a bunch of little kids but I still had a great time. I saw an albino stingray and I didn’t even know that they existed before that day. I wasn’t there long but it was a great aquarium. After I left I decided to wander the city before I could check into my hotel. It rained on and off but luckily I had brought my umbrella. I wondered the streets but what I wasn’t expecting about the city was that Malta was more underdeveloped than I had expected. What I mean that outside of the beach side resorts the whole country had outdated infrastructure. I was just surprised. I made my way to one of the Wignacourt tower which was formerly used as a watch tower in the 17th century. The weather began to improve and I grabbed lunch. After lunch I was able to check into my hotel. I took a nap because I was exhausted from the early flight. Later that evening I went swimming at the pool. It felt great to be back in the water. I had a late dinner and then headed to bed.
The next morning I woke up early for a tour. I had breakfast at the hotel and waited for the tour group to pick me up. Once on the tour I realized that everyone else on the tour was at least 30 years older than me. I ended up sitting next to a nice British lady who was very curious about coronavirus. For the tour our first stop was the blue grotto. This is a set of caves on the ocean. We took a small boat to explore the caves and see then up close. They were gorgeous and reminded me of the grottos of Capri. After the boat ride I snuck off the beaten path to capture more photos of the view. Our next stop on the tour was to the local fishing markets. I wandered the markets for a couple hours but I didn’t end up buying anything. The boats of the village are all painted vibrant colors so I was able to soak in the beautiful harbor. After the fishing village I returned back to the hotel. I had a late lunch and I had one of their local fish. It was so good! I spent the afternoon relaxing. I had another late dinner at the hotel and packed my bags. Early the next morning I had to bid farewell to the beautiful island of Malta.
