I arrived in Madrid on Sunday and moved in with my host family on Tuesday. My host parent are Ana and Juan and they are the absolute best! I am living with 6 other girls in an apartment in the heart of the city. I love our location because as soon as we step out of our door we are in the heart of sol.
I have experienced a pretty rough adjustment period and I am still recovering from jet lag but I absolutely love it here!
Today (1/9) was my last first day of class! It is so terrifying that I am almost a "real" adult. My classes went smoothly and this semester I have the same professor for all of my classes! I cannot wait to see where this adventure takes me and thanks for reading!
I should be packing for my first international trip but I'm sitting here writing this. This weekend I am off to Porto, Portugal!
I can't believe that I have already been here for two weeks! Classes are going fairly well. The one exception is that it is so awkward to be the only visiting student in my classes required for the semester of graduation. I had never considered that all my classmates would all be close friends by this point in their colligate career.
And when I am not in class, I am exploring this beautiful city. Everyday I have to tried to discover something new. So far I have explored the local markets, El Retiro park, the royal palace and so much more! I have also been enjoying the nightlife in the city but you knew that already.
I'm picking up a lot of Spanish from my host parents. I already feel more comfortable with the language. I am no where near fluent but I have been able to get by!
This past weekend I took day trips to both Toledo and Monesterio de la Pierdra. Updates for both those trips are coming soon!
I have been so busy since I have been traveling the past two weekends! School is in full swing. I'm really enjoying my classes here. I only have two professors this semester and I like them both a lot!
Last week we celebrated one of my roommates birthdays and my host parents went all out! Pictured is the dinner they threw for us with sangria. My Spanish is improving and my host parents get so excited when I actually say something correctly!
So far I am loving this beautiful country and all the cool places I've gotten to visit thus far!
This past weekend I traveled to Nice, France and Monte Carlo, Monaco. You can find what I wrote about the trip under my Trip Two tab!
It is crazy to think that I have been here for an entire month already! I feel like I've finally gotten into a routine. Although, I mess it up almost weekly with the traveling that I have doing on the weekends. I can tell my Spanish is getting better! I usually have some idea of what is going on at dinner now and I can order food on my own at restaurants! It is not much but I'm trying my best.
Mckenna has become my lunch buddy and I have loved finding new local places to eat with her! The best this week was a bakery named madridelicia!
Last week a SLU group organized a wine tasting fundraiser. They provided tons of tapas and amazing wine. (please enjoy the photo of peter double fisting!) It was great to learn about the local Spanish wines that are produced near here and across the country.
Classes are going well, it hasn't been too difficult to balance school and traveling. I have done this before so that could help. Next week I have three exams on the same day so don't expect to hear from me for a bit! The final picture attached to this post is the sunset from my apartment window. I could not have asked for a better location or better host parents! Overall I am absolutely loving Spain. I am so glad I decided to study abroad again!
