This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Iceland with my aunt. I've learned through all my research that there are two ways to see Iceland. The first is to rent a car and drive the circle route around the entire island. The second option is to base yourself in Reykyevek and contract tours to access the best parts of the island. We chose the latter. This worked perfectly for us!
The best day that I had in Iceland was one of my first days there. We traveled to the split between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Iceland is the only place in the world where a continental divide occurs on land. The crevices over time have filled up with freshwater from the underground springs. We were able to snorkel in two degree celsius water between the plates. We wore drysuits but my face and hands were still exposed to the frigid temperatures. Although I froze, the stunning rock formations were worth it! It was absolutely amazing to experience the unique environment.
