David Garrison's Tenure Portfolio

David Garrison, M.S.

At the age of 26 I decided to give college another try. I enrolled at my local community college and my plans were to take a few classes to see if there was anything I would like to pursue. During that first semester, I quickly realized mathematics was the topic I would like to study. I transferred from Scott Community College with an A.A. and A.S. in Liberal Arts to the University of Iowa where I earned a B.A. in Mathematics. For the next two years, I worked as an adjunct at Scott Community College. It was there that I realized becoming a full-time math faculty member at a community college was the career that I wanted. I enrolled at Northern Illinois University where I worked as a graduate assistant and, after two years, earned my M. S. in Pure Mathematics. Working the last few years at Illinois Valley Community College has proved to me that teaching at a community college is indeed the career I have always wanted.
