Indefinite Limit: IVCC's Math Club

Indefinite Limit

In my second semester at IVCC, Spring 2020, I took over as academic advisor of the math club at IVCC called Indefinite Limit from Dawn Chambers. Working with this club has been one of my favorite parts of working at IVCC. I have had the privilege to work with students who are passionate and curious about mathematics. During a typical meeting, we discuss a topic that a student would like to know more about and then we try to prove a formula or other law. I typically pose the question to the students and then they work together to solve it. For instance, we have proved the laws of sine and cosine, differentiation by parts, the quadratic formula, and the Pythagorean Theorem more than ten different ways.

I have tried to increase enrollment in the math club by posting flyers around campus, having posts made on the college's Facebook page, and by offering incentives, like pizza, for students to join.
