What is the role of research indicators in the evaluation?

Research indicators are used in the course of evaluation as follows:

  • As the basis for decisioing whether the quality of a research area and its fields will be assessed using bibliometric analysis or peer review, or a combination of both methods;

  • As input for processing the bibliometric reports;

  • As the contextual data for assessment of the quality of fields, research areas, and units.
