The pinewood derby is among every Cub Scout's favorite events and Pack 341 strives to make it more exciting and memorable every year! Pack 341 hosts their annual Pinewood Derby every January. Each scout will receive an official BSA Pinewood Derby kit in December, to begin to design their own race car to be entered in the derby. There are some specific guidelines that must be followed, but other than that, we encourage each scout to be creative and have fun in creating their unique car.
If you and your Scout aren't ready to build a pinewood derby car on your own, come out to our Build Days where you’ll have access to help, tools, and more! The Pack hosts multiple Build Days over the course of the month of January. On a Build Day, a scout, along with an adult, may attend the event with a design ready and receive help to use the tools provided, to cut their cars. The scout will then be able to take the car home to assemble, add weight and paint. On the night before race day, the Pack has a weigh-in where our leaders will make sure the guidelines were met, assign the car a number, and then the car will be placed in a bin and “quarantined” until the race. On race day, each car will be raced multiple times against all other cars within the den. In addition to the races, we'll have exciting side activities, crafts, prizes, concessions and more! Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers in each den/patrol. Parents and siblings are invited to participate in the Sunday Cup Races ($5 per non-Scout car).
