Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 341! Our Pack currently serves Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Midlothian, Crestwood and the surrounding areas for 50+ children in kindergarten through fifth grade (or about five to eleven years old). Our Pack is chartered by the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Oak Forest, and is a member of the Nishnabec District of Pathways to Adventure Council, Boy Scouts of America. We have been in existence since 1971.
There is a reason for everything scouts do in Cub Scouting. Apart from the fun and excitement, the aim of Cub Scouting is to help boys and girls grow into good citizens who are strong in character and personally fit. Everything we do has a purpose, but is designed to be fun and engaging for our scouts, regardless of their ability to perform perfectly. Cub Scouting is a year-round, family orientated program. The Cub Scout motto is “Do Your Best” and that’s all anyone will ever ask them to do.
All Cub Scouts are members of Dens. A Den is made up of boys or girls, his or her own age–from his or her grade level, working towards the same goals. The Lion den is made up of kindergartners, the Tiger den is for first graders, Wolves are second graders, Bears are in third grade, Webelos are in fourth grade and the fifth graders are in the Webelos 2/Arrow of Light Den. Dens are led by a volunteer adult Den Leader, with one or more Assistant Den Leaders, and some dens have a Boy Scout serving as Den Chief. Dens typically meet twice a month on a week day night. Den leaders may call additional meetings as needed to meet goals or to attend events. All the Dens together form a Pack. The monthly Pack meetings are lead and organized by the Cubmaster. The Pack generally meets on a Sunday evening once a month. The Cubmaster is responsible for all activity of the Pack when it involves the scouts. The Pack is directed by a Pack Committee that meets monthly. The Pack Committee is made up of volunteer adult leaders in specific roles. The Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmasters, Den Leaders and assistants are also invited to attend and some may hold one of the Committee roles as well. The Pack Committee is led by a Pack Committee Chair. The Pack Committee Chair oversees all of the Pack leaders as well the pack events and activities.
Each Pack (and every scouting unit) belongs to a District, and ours is Nishnabec. The District meets monthly at a Round Table (the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30p) to help educate leaders on upcoming events, and with tips and tricks on how to make the Pack run smoothly. The District is led by a Professional Scouter–someone who works for Boy Scouts of America –and is called the District Executive. Nishnabec’s website is http://www.pathwaytoadventure.org/districts/nishnabec/ Each District belongs to a Council. Ours is Pathways to AdventureCouncil (PTAC), which serves most of Chicagoland and northwest Indiana. They have a calendar of events on their home page for more information about Council wide events and activities. PTAC’s website -http://www.pathwaytoadventure.orgAdditionally, our pack is chartered by the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. http://www.resurrection-oakforest.org/ This means they are responsible for everything we do –they are the owners of our equipment and supply us with meeting space and support. In turn, we meet with them and help them with their projects. We usually work with the Church to do a few service projects every year.
