A major part of Cub Scouting is enjoying healthy fun in the great outdoors. To that purpose, Pack 341 is proud to bring your our Hiking Program. Our goal is to organize a trek each month of the year. Hikes are, in most cases, free. Siblings, parents, family and friends are always welcome! Some hikes (most 6:1 Little Woodsmen Hikes) may include additional activities like Nature Center tours, or a bring your own brown bag, picnic style lunch.
About Our Hikes:
Hikes will range in length from one to five miles. Some will be on improved paths (paved), some may be gravel, stone or wood chips, and others will be unimproved (bare ground). Specific details about each hike (length, path, duration, etc.) will usually be made available prior to the scheduled date.
We keep track of all participants' mileage over the course of the year and recognize our most veteran hikers at our Pack Meetings.
WEATHER NOTE: Pack 341 abides by the BSA Safe Scouting policies regarding weather. In cases of lightning, severe cold or other dangerous weather, hikes will be cancelled or rescheduled. In all other cases, we'll be enjoying the outdoors!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unless alternate arrangements are made with your Den Leader, a parent or guardian must accompany your Scout on all hikes. As always, per BSA policy, ALL Lion and Tiger scouts, MUST have an adult with them at all scouting events and activities.
What to bring on a hike:
Scouts should bring their 6 essentials (first aid kit, filled water bottle, flashlight, sun protection/bug spray, whistle, and trail food) with them in a bag that they can carry themselves.
This goes for our adults as well. Always bring water! A small first aid kit is recommended. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and season-appropriate clothing. Depending on the weather, you may also want to bring: rain-gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, bug repellent, etc. If you have a compass, feel free to bring it along for some basic orienteering instruction. Cameras are always welcome. Scouts should only bring hiking staffs if they're prepared to use them only as hiking staffs (not "light sabers"). Small amounts of healthy snacks (like trail mix or granola bars). Some hikes may include stops for brown bag lunches.
What NOT to bring:
Unhealthy snacks or beverages. Video games, music players or other electronics. Pets.
When are hikes?
Hikes are scheduled once each month--either on Saturday or Sunday. Saturday hikes are generally at 10am and Sunday hikes are at 1pm. Please visit our Pack calendar for details.
How do I sign-up for a hike?
Hikes are listed on the Pack 341 calendar with a link to Scoutbook to RSVP, as well as a link to the hiking destination that month. Hiking events and sign-up links are also shared to Facebook users subscribed to Cub Scout Pack 341.

The Little Woodsmen Nature Trails are designed to give the young a chance to enjoy the outdoors. By visiting each of these centers, hiking the trails, taking the time to view the various signs on the displays, trees, shrubs and grasses, they will gain first hand knowledge of our area. This will give them a greater appreciation of our preserves, and in turn, we hope they will encourage others to take care of these natural areas.
The OA sponsors a number of hikes which the Pack will participate in. Typically these have a small fee per scout.
Deep River Hike in November is one of our favorites.
Potawatomi Indiana Dunes Hike in March is also hosted by the Order of the Arrow.
