Welcome to North America!!
You will hopefully be able to navigate the year without any incidents, but if they do happen, we want to make sure you know how to get the medical care you need.
The 3 main things to remember are:
1) Always contact your YEO to get help when dealing with Medical Providers. DO NOT HAVE YOUR HOST FAMILY SIGN ANYTHING OR PAY FOR ANYTHING
2) Make sure you know what a claim for is, and roughly how you would fill it out. If possible, bring a claim for with you when you see a doctor so they can fill out their portion
3) Make sure to send in the claim for quickly to the insurance company so the reimbursement comes back quickly
And like everything else on your exchange, communicate, communicate, communicate. Rotarians are here to help you
Other Tips
Our Policy is a Medical and Liability Policy.
There is no network of providers
There is no deductible or co-pay
The student goes wherever their YEO takes them
The Host family should never sign any form imploying financial responsibility. The YEO or Inbound Coordinator should do so if that is necessary
If the student is injured and hospitalized, you need to call 1-855-327-1414 to open a claim; preferably within 24 hours of the incident.
Emergency Surgery is covered, however if Surgery is re ommended, and not life threatening, the number above should be called for approval
Items NOT covered:
Prescriptions are not covered. The only medication covered is if it is provided in a hospital or clinic as the result of an injury or illness.
Vaccinations are not covered
School Athletic Physicals are not covered
When filing a claim,
We strongly suggest that the YEO be involved in that process.
The claim form is in YEAH, the document library, and also on this website.
It can be printed and filled out, it is only two pages and takes very little time to complete
If in the USA, Go to the medical provider an dask for a "Universal 1500" form, and suggest to them that you will file the claim
Ask them for the address to send the funds.
The reason for this is that it only takes 2-4 weeks to get a claim paid and the medical facility may take weeks to file the eclaim. This way the YEO can monitor the status of the claim. If there are questions they will come to your YEO so that they are aware of what isahppening with the claim.
Our insurer will not pay a claim after one year fro mthe date of the incident
