Central States sets the guidelines for what our Inbounds should have in terms of coverage. Through 2026, this has meant that our Inbounds have had a the same policy (with small exceptions for a couple of Nordic countries)
Some terminology can be helpful, since the Insurance Card has all sorts of names on it.
1) The firm we interact with to deal with Insurance is ACI (Administratiave Concepts Inc).
2) ACI owns the ACE Insurance Company
3) The Network used to help coordinate ACI's policies is First Health Network
4) The Health insurance for ACI's policies are underwritten by CHUBB
TRAVEL INSURANCE (if something goes wrong with scheduling or if they miss their flight) is different from Health insurance. Do not send a health insurance claim to the Travel insurance portion of the company.
5) AXA helps provide Travel insurance for ACE, but not for health insurance
As you help your YEOs navigate dealing with health problems, please make sure they do not have the Host Families sign any documents. That can insert them into a system that has long, long tails, and they may be contacted again and again by health providers. Avoiding that is important.
make sure the YEO tries as much as possible to have the health providers (hospitals, doctors offices, etc) direct bill ACI. It works most of the time and in most places
It is always in the health providers' purview to deny direct billing, and to try and bill the student directly. If this happens, the student will have to pay, and then they can submit a claim to ACI for reimbursement. The claim form to do so is in the FORMS page. This is a Health Provoider issue more than a health insurance issue. If at all possible, it is easiest to only deal with providers that won't direct bill the students.
Note, if the student is direct billed, there may need to be a "bridge loan" to cover the costs (they will have their emergency money, but that may not cover a $2000 bill). Please make sure your YEOs have plan for how the Rotary clubs can help facilitate a bridge loan.
