The 3 most important things to do to prepare to navigate the Insurance system are
For your INBOUNDS:
1) Make sure the Host Family does not give their information to a provider
2) Make sure the Student has a partially filled out claim for with them to bring to the provider at the time of service, if possible
3) Make sure you know how to access any "bridge loan" funds so that bills can be paid to the provider, and then reimbursed once the claim form is submitted. The majority of claims experiences are positive, and the money arrives within 3 weeks of submission
4) Luckily, claims are not often made. The corollary of fact is that not many people in your district, or even in CSRYE will have a lot of experience with weird issues that come up. Plan to be patient and persistent in your pursuit of troubleshooting, but try and make things as easy on the host parents as possible.
For your OUTBOUNDS:
1) Make sure you know your districts procedures on how insurance is purchased, and that your student is keeping up with the timelines needed to successfully navigate the visa process.
2) Outbound insurance is flux. The way we used to have all Outbounds buy the same policy as our Inbounds is starting to change. The main goals are as follows:
a) We have all our Outbounds with RI compliant policies
b) We follow the rules of the Host country and Host District
c) We have our Outbounds have coverages that are as consitant as possible with CSRYE's desire for the students to have 1st dollar coverage and high coverage limits.
