I don't know about you, but I love to fly. Although flying can be a bit pricey, this is my preferred and desired form of travel! While I don't fly too often, I have enough to collect some little insights on making the best out of your travel experience!
While airplane seats can be quite uncomfortable, there are some things you can do to "hack", or adjust your seat for comfort...
We all know how much of a pain it is when someone has to use the bathroom and you have to get out of your seat completely to let them out. Especially when they're on their third bottle of water, it sucks having to stand up to let them into the aisle. I'm not sure if every airline has this feature, but if you feel around under the armrest of the aisle seat, you will find a small button to press, which will release the lock on your armrest. Push it up, swoop your legs around, and never worry about that stranger with the bladder of a squirrel again!
It is uncomfortable to lay back on those thin headrests. Did you know that you can adjust those, too? They move up and down, and those small flaps can curve out to support your head better. Not only does it adapt to your height, but you won't be falling asleep on that random stranger's shoulder!
Whether you make one for yourself or buy a pre-packed one, it's always great to have an essentials kit at the top of your personal item bag. It's awkward to take everything out of your backpack just for your phone charger, especially when sitting next to a stranger. So, do yourself a favor and keep all of the essentials in a separate zipper bag/box at the top of your bag!
You'll have to get a large heavy-duty zipper bag to keep everything in. Whatever works best for you and actually holds all of your items! Here are some things to keep in that essentials bag...
Hand Sanitizer
Wet Wipes (Airplanes are nasty 🤢)
Charging Cords
Lotion
Chapstick or Lip Oil
Feminine Hygiene Products (Just in Case)
Passport (if Necessary) and Wallet
Gum or Mints (For Takeoff and Landing)
Tissues
This isn't as much of a hack as it is what you should keep in mind when going through a TSA check. It can be stressful to go through, but here are some things to do or to keep in mind to make your TSA check quick and efficient! Don't worry! I'll explain...
Travel 👏 sized 👏 bottles 👏: If you didn't already know, there is a requirement for the size bottles your liquid products (shampoo, toothpaste, perfume) can be in. The limit is typically 3.4 ounces or less! And yes, they will check! There have been countless times that I assumed they wouldn't check and they ended up throwing out my face wash because the bottle was too big. You can buy travel-sized products or transfer your products to TSA-approved bottles.
Shoes matter: You will be required to remove your shoes before going through the TSA line! It is important to wear shoes that will be easy to take off before going through the line (Birkenstocks, Crocs, flip flops). Some lines do random hand checks where they'll have you show them your hands, so be prepared if they do that. If they ask you to show them your hands, don't panic, you're not in trouble.
Like I said, liquid bottles must be less than 3.4 ounces! If you want to have water on the plane without paying for a $42 water, listen here... Ice is a solid... Mind-blowing, right? If you freeze a bottle of water, and drink whatever water is melted before going through the line, they consider that a solid item and will not take it from you!
Remember to take out metal items! Take off your glasses, watches, phone, wallet, keys (if one would bring that on a trip with them), and claw clips! They may be suspicious if the metal alarm goes off, even if you simply forgot to take off your glasses.
