Life is hard. You have priorities, you have a family to take care of, (likely) a job to take care of, bills to pay, and on top of that, you have to learn to love yourself and others! It is hard to make sure you're taking care of your mental health and loving yourself when you can feel so insecure, judged, and outcasted! It is awful... Here is a curated list of three strategies and tips to practice self-love throughout your daily life!
When I first started stating daily affirmations, I thought it was stupid and useless. Now that I've practiced them and gotten used to them, I can very easily see the impact on my life. You can print a list, write them down, or memorize them! But here's the important part... every single day when you wake up, before doing anything, you will walk up to a mirror and look yourself in the eyes and say your daily affirmations. Here's the catch, though. Even if you don't believe them, you must teach yourself to believe them, or else they will be useless. They will sound weird at first, but at some point, they will be a critical part of your routine. You will be so confident in yourself because you made yourself believe those affirmations!
If you don't know where to start, you can search for "Affirmation PDF" on Google and download one from there. If you still can't find one, here are some simple ones to start with...
I am deeply loved
I am strong
I am unique
I am enough
I am beautiful
Avoiding eye contact is a sign of lying... If you aren't looking yourself in the eye and believing what you are telling yourself, you are wasting your precious time that you could be feeling horrible about yourself. It's the hard truth.
Self-confidence is not something you are born with. You have to practice it, and until you master it, you have to fake it until you make it. Influencer Spencer Barbosa is the reason I am so confident today. The way she inspires young girls to love themselves has inspired me to start this blog. Here are some things you can do to help improve your self-confidence!
You have to put yourself in situations you aren't comfortable. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, but go outside of your comfort zone. If you never put yourself in a situation to
practice public speaking, you'll never be confident in public speaking!
Make a huge deal out of yourself. Although nobody cares what you look like, you will walk into the room knowing you're the prettiest girl there. Even though nobody smells you, wear your favorite perfume and make it known you are the most delicious-smelling woman there!
Compliment yourself. When you feel those intrusive thoughts invading your brain, telling you "You're ugly. You're not good enough." You need to snap out of it and compliment yourself. You're gonna say "NOT TODAY, SATAN! I am gorgeous, I am more than enough, and I am loved!"
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you will never learn to love yourself if you never treat yourself to what you know you deserve... School is hard! Work is hard! Simply living is hard! You deserve to be pampered... Whether it's going to a spa to get a massage or simply doing a sheet mask in your pajamas while watching your favorite movie!
Doing this will teach you to appreciate yourself for all you do in your own life! Here are some ways to pamper yourself...
Go get yourself some Chick-fil-A after a long workout... You worked so hard, and you deserve a delicious meal!
Light some candles and take a hot bath. You've been working all week, and you need to relax.
Watch a 2000s chick flick and pop yourself a bag of popcorn!
Take a nap! It's as simple as that. I know you have work to do, I know you're stressed, but don't underestimate the power of a nap!
