Winter League Development Squad - Craven Dragons Green

Craven Dragons Green is a mixture of senior Dragons who are developing their netball skills and experience and cadets. Cadets have been selected by the coaches who believe their technical and tactical ability will enable them to develop match experience in a senior league. There will be opportunities for other cadets to participate in the future.

Winter League Information For Parents (and players)

The Burnley Ladies Netball League is based in at the Burnley Campus, Thomas Whitton Sixth Form, Barden Road, Burnley. It is a senior league and runs from October to March. Matches are played outside - in all weathers.

There are match fees of £2.50 for all players per full game to cover the costs of the outdoor all weather court hire and umpires. Players need to bring these fees with them each time they play as we have to pay weekly, on the night of the match.

As this is a winter league and we are up North, the weather is often arctic with howling winds and horizontal rain. This doesn't mean we can stay inside in the warm, so your daughter will need suitable trainers and a waterproof top.

She can play without the top, but she will get even wetter!

Craven Dragons has a policy of "if you don't train, you don't play" and so being part of the development squad is a commitment to training as well as playing. If we have more than 7 players available we will use a rota system so all girls will get a fair opportunity to play. We will obviously take into account their preference and ability in positions - so this may mean some players are asked to try different positions at times (we all do this and this actually makes us better netballers!).

The intention is for at least two of the senior players to play at every match. This will enable us to support your daughter as she develops match play experience and confidence. This will also provide a limited level of supervision. Where possible one of the coaches will also observe the matches (assuming we aren't playing at the same time!) to support the team.

We share transport to the matches, usually meeting at South Craven School. We may need to ask for help with transport to Burnley from you on occasion. If this isn't possible your daughter will be ferried to and from South Craven School to play in the matches and these drivers will be other senior players or other parents.

You can find the playing conditions and rules on the Burnley Ladies Netball website. This is a senior league and umpires are very strict about the length of nails and jewellery. Your daughter will not be able to play if she has long finger nails (general rule is that nails should not be visible when viewed from the palm side of the hand) or any jewellery on, even if taped.
