Weather

Playing in the winter league there are a couple of things to bear in mind. We are up North, the weather is often arctic with howling winds and horizontal rain.  This doesn't mean we can stay inside in the warm, so your daughter will need suitable trainers and a waterproof top.

She can play without the top, but she will get even wetter!

Weather can also play a part in the summer leagues!! Dress appropriately.

Squad Etiquette

Craven Dragons has a policy of "if you don't train, you don't play" and so being part of the playing squad is a commitment to training as well as playing.  If we have more than 7 players available we will use a rota system so all girls will get a fair opportunity to play. We will obviously take into account their preference and ability in positions - so this may mean some players are asked to try different positions at times (we all do this and this actually makes us better netballers!).

We try to ensure there is a coach available to support the cadets whilst they play. This does depend on availability of seniors and our match times. We haven't yet perfected the art of being in two places at once! You are also very welcome to come and watch and support from the sidelines.

Transport

We share transport to the matches, usually meeting at South Craven School. We may need to ask for help with transport to Burnley from you on occasion. If this isn't possible your daughter will be ferried to and from South Craven School to play in the matches and these drivers will be other senior players or other parents.  We will communicate transport arrangements via Spond.

Nails and Jewellery

You can find the playing conditions and rules on the Burnley Ladies Netball website. This is a senior league and umpires are very strict about the length of nails and jewellery. Your daughter will not be able to play if she has long finger nails (general rule is that nails should not be visible when viewed from the palm side of the hand) or any jewellery on, even if taped. Please make sure nails are filed and jewellery removed before we travel to the match.
