"The Crossroads of The Civil War": We should keep it that way.

6,350 acres of greenhouse gas-reducing forest lands will be converted to a massive industrial solar power plant, forever changing the character of Spotsylvania County.

The County's Comprehensive Plan calls for Spotsylvania to maintain its rural, agricultural and historic elements. Construction of a massive, 10-square-mile power plant clearly VIOLATES that Comprehensive Plan on so many levels.

Most significantly: "Open Space Land Use Policies: Development in these areas should be generally discouraged. However, if it is to occur, it should … blend into the existing landscape.” Slides from our Planning Commission presentation, Dec. 19, 2018:

"Development... should blend into the existing landscape."

(Spotsylvania Comprehensive Plan)

"Oh yeah. You blend."

(Marisa Tomei, "My Cousin Vinny")

Further, the sPower proposed site would be only a short distance from:

The proposed power plant must not detract from that aspect and the character of our community.

In April, the county received an architectural survey of the proposed "Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center". In our opinion, this is yet another aspect of the proposal that simply illustrates that Spotsylvania County is not the place for something of this magnitude.
