Conceptionary — Project Description

Purpos

Conceptionary is an interactive HTML/CSS/JS web-based application through which foreign language learners — working from any specified Source Language (SL) — can request AI assistance (via a Large Language Model) to assemble the lexical items (vocabulary and phrases) relevant to a chosen concept or topic's semantic spectrum, using hypernyms, archilexemes, and hyponyms as the organizing logic.

The AI provides equivalents in any specified Target Language (TL), gathering and ordering vocabulary according to its natural progression over time — through states, transitions, and degree (e.g. least to most).

Template Selection Logic

The AI follows the Template Selection Guide, a series of diagnostic questions to determine whether the changes within a concept are:

Instant or gradual
Transitional or cyclical
Temporary or permanent
Positive or negative

The answers determine which of the 35 template families the TL vocabulary (with its SL equivalents) is uploaded into.

Template Types

Two full sets of 35 templates exist, differentiated by writing system:

ROM (Phonographic) — for languages using the Roman/Latin writing system. 3-level progression: TL → SL → Quiz.
LOG (Logographic) — for languages using a writing system illegible to learners. A TLR (Target Language Romanised) level is added ahead of the native-script level. 4-level progression: TLR → TL → SL → Quiz.

Quiz & Assessment Features

Each interactive text-box loop embeds a Quiz level for memory testing and progress tracking.
To handle diacritical markers at text input, language-specific spelling conventions are defined for the Quiz level.
Cloze tests will be generated using the most frequent usage examples sourced from LLMs.

Development & Content Pipeline

The author will manually create one worked example per template family (35 total) for the AI to reference when populating new instances.
Once populated with lexical items, templates are stored for future reference.
Audio will be linked to lexical items.
Conceptionary is intended to serve as a reference system on which lessons can be based.

Community & Crowdsourcing Features

Users can suggest vocabulary not already displayed in a template.
Users can submit validation feedback on content appropriateness via a crowdsourcing app within Conceptionary.

Platform

Conceptionary will be made available on mobile phones and other touch-screen devices, in addition to desktop.

I'm currently working to set up the foundations for this system so the templates that you can retrieve through the buttons provide lists of templates that I have actually created manually and that are already hosted on this Conceptionary website.
I'm currently working towards enabling A.I. to provide all the vocabulary that is associated with any concept/topic of your choosing and am teaching the A.I. to identify which of the 70 types of templates best demonstrates any given concept's progression over time (horizontal ) and degree ( vertical ) along which it will display the vocabulary as you drag your cursor along it.
The example template below would be the result if you were to have input 'I speak' = 'English' and 'I want to learn'= 'Bahasa Indonesia' and "I want to learn about' = 'Quality' ( the general concept ) .
Explore this template by clicking on the Indonesian vocabulary ( displayed by default) to see its English equivalent and by dragging the rectangular box down along the curve to display related vocabulary placed in approximate relation to its meaning. A 3rd click on the Vocabulary item will take you to a text entry box where you must enter the Indonesian word which will make it visible along the line. Do this until you have completed all of the Vocabulary, By default , these templates open in 'States Mode' - with the vocabulary describing states being nouns, adjectives and adverbs. To see verbs associated with the concept, click on the 'toggle mode' button at the bottom / centre of the screen which will take you to the Transitions Mode.

This is a work in progress ( 7th of August 2026 ) and I've set this web-site up as a repository for some of the materials I created while teaching English Language in Japan and New Zealand between 1990 and 2008.
Go to the Directory of Templates - Romanized Languages to get access to the generic Interactive Vocabulary Presentation templates which are being created for future use with real human languages.
You'll need to view them on a desktop or laptop device.
