When first considering teaching Project Management to high school students, please consider training for yourself with a LinkedIn Learning class or online training. It is also recommended that instructors study and take the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification. Dana Anderson, the Program Director, can connect you to members of the Mile Hi PMI (Project Management Institute) group as well for training, mentors, and scholarships.
The suggested Project Management coursework is divided into two separate courses: Project Management in Organizations and Project Management in Action. Each course has its own subpage, which is linked in the brief descriptions below. You will also find overview documents posted on this page.
This infographic shows how all Project Management materials are organized on our site. The "Additional Resources" can be found here.
The Project Management in Organizations competencies are designed to introduce basic PM concepts using Project Management for Life curriculum from PMIEF, and materials from a fellow instructor who created units with lessons and activities. It can be quite useful to implement project management in an existing course, but if teaching project management for the concurrent enrollment credit you may want to combine it with CTSO Projects, chapter events, etc.
The Project Management in Action competencies are designed to take the basic PM concepts a step further and provide students will hands-on learning on a variety of PM knowledge areas. It is recommended that instructors recruit Project Managers to provide some instruction and mentor project teams. If the CAPM is being considered, a CAPM processes class from Mile Hi PMI would be necessary to provide participants with the test prep that has been proven to make passing the certification test a success.
