Fine Tuning

Fine tuning with OBD11

After the last Laguna Seca day there were a handful of chassis and drivetrain settings that I felt needed adjustment.

  • ESC fully off - Factory "off" doesn't actually turn it fully off

  • XDS Intervention - Changing to "weak" to allow for less input during chassis rotation

  • Removing brake over assistance and stabilization - You feel this coming off high speed straights where the car squirms and the system tries to account for this

  • Removing the torque limiter - My car is on 200tw tires + lower dogbone and I don't want TCU input on corner acceleration

  • Increased traction for VAQ - Changing the differential lock to aggressive

Track Hack has a great video specifically geared to adjusting MK7 OBD11 settings in prep for performance driving which helped me locate and adjust the settings.

Maintenance

If you own an MK7 GTI I highly suggest buying a Schwaben 6.5L Oil & Fluid Extractor. By far the easiest DIY oil change i have ever done on a car and the oil change kit + fluid extractor was still less than one dealer oil change.

In addition to the quick oil change I rotated my tires front to back and removed the airbox snow guard for better airflow as temperatures continue to rise into the summer.

What are we prepping for?

Being back in the PNW I couldn't pass up a track day at Oregon Raceway Park with some of my long time automotive and fellow grassroots enthusiasts. This will be OnGrid Track Events first time in the PNW and at one of the most under rated tracks in the country. Till then #GetOutandDrive
