Evo X Build VI

It's been sometime since I last updated this blog so that's what I'm going to do in this post. I last left off with the Evo X and it getting new Hankook RS-3's. The new tires are fantastic and are perfect for the platform. I have had a bit of time to break them in at auto x and will be taking the car out to Portland International Raceway on the 26th. In the meantime check out some of the auto x footage.

Here is a quick clip from the Emerald Empire Sports Car Club down in Eugene. This was a fantastic event as I convinced my Dad to come down and co-drive the Evo with me.

The car feels great on an open course like the EESCC one however despite having extra grip it did not help all that much when the course itself is small. The Willamette Motor Club event's are known for being tight and this one was. I continued to run over one cone with my back tire from cutting a tight turn at McKay but it's still fun to just get out and drive.

Shortly after that I took the Evo out to the Summer Fest event at the Salem fairgrounds which was an interesting blend of drifting, auto x, and show. I had fun with the exception of getting a nail in my tire early on in the day effectively rendering the Evo useless for two weeks. I ordered another RS-3 which took a week and then had to send it off to be shaved down to match the wear on the other three. Hillyer's Tire and Wheel in Salem was able to get it shaved down, mounted, and balanced which worked out great.

I had to include this picture as I feel it explains our motley crew of wanna be racers quite well.

While that was all taking place I picked up a Civic EP3 SI for a daily. This little car is a blast and I even took it out to PIR for a quick track night.

Despite lacking in the power and grip department the car itself was a blast to drive. I managed to get down to a 1:45 although I could smell the brakes and the car went into limp mode after it couldn't get enough oil into the vtec solenoid. So I pulled it into the pits checked it out and then drove it home. The Civic is a blast to drive around country roads and road course's. I would say it's perfect for anyone looking for a cheap, economical, hot hatch. It also clean's up pretty good.

That's about all that has happened. Like I said just a quick mid summer update however I should have some new data after the 26th on the performance of the Evo with the RS-3's on track including lap times, g-force's, and overall video. Should be interesting. Thanks for checking it out and until next time #GetOutAndDrive.
