2016 Motorsports Kickoff

This was the first time being able to test the car and gather some intel on how it performs now that it has the new KW suspension as well as a decent bump in power.

Before I start talking about the actual auto x event I would like to talk about a couple of things I do to prepare for an auto x event and hopefully it can help someone be better prepared than when I first started.

The key things I like to pack or do to prepare for auto x are:

1. Tools: Chances are something is going to break. It may not be you but tools always come in handy.

2. Fluids: I like to pack extra oil, coolant, or whatever is vital to the car performing again just to prepare for worst case scenarios. As well I know some cars use oil under stress so it is always handy to have extra.

3. A jacket: At most auto x events the participants are split into run groups and work groups. When your working and chasing down knocked over cones your going to want a jacket, especially in Oregon.

4. I like to remove any unneccessary weight from my car as it is already a heavy machine. So I usually pull the spare tire and accessories.

So that was the kickoff event for the Willamette Motor Club Auto X season. This was a good opportunity to test out the car with its new KW Suspension, Vorshlag Camber plates, and corner balance + alignment from AR Auto Service in Lake Oswego, OR. Overall it was a blast. The course was a bit small but that is the usual for this location. The car felt very planted and confident going in and exiting corners with ample amounts of power. I am looking forward to getting it out on a course or track where it can really stretch its legs.

Here is todays course layout and run:

As you can see from the video the car surprisingly quick even on the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2's and was able to be nimble enough to navigate the tighter course. At the end of my five runs I managed a best of 44.5 seconds which I believe landed me in the top three of the morning session.

Morning Results (I am STU 11) :

Overall at the end of the day it was a great start to the 2016 motorsports season and I had fun. I will be keeping this website and blog up to date with more adventures and shenanigans so stay tuned.
