fingerprints glided over a glass, separated by air and the membrane of difference.
a mark of a hand traced absently over a surface, toetips and pads striking and carving.
pausing and pouncing, prancing and peering
a pair of eyes meeting the shins of another. counting freckles and beholding an inquisitive other
staring through space, beyond, knowing and beckoning and gesturing
to return again
a hand, an eyelid, an arm splaying out to meet the cold surface of itself
the pacing of a heels strike on carpet before it turns back upon itself
a reflection, a reflection
Glimpse is a private duplex project, designed for a dancer and a philosopher. The project explores the idea of an other, in the audience at hand in performance, and the explorations of society in philosophy. Moments of thin transparency and light provide connections between the two occupants, creating an innate relationship. Spaces reflect the needs of the occupants, promoting speculation and contemplation. Different levels and heights of walls create different relationships between spaces, challenging the built relationship and offering areas of exploration. Solid walls create moments of barrier while pieces of transparent glass make for moments of small exposure and visual connection.
The duplex’s program spirals around the central core, swirling the occupancy around the center to a shared rooftop - promoting interaction between the two occupants
The exterior concrete shell creates thin lines of light that relate to the interior condition, creating a monolithic appearing condition.
The central core creates apertures into the split interior courtyard, channeling light into spaces
Floor plates extend out to support partition walls of thin pieces of concrete, along with opaque and transparent glass
Glimpse utilizes a branching concrete system, combined with a central core
