jewelry, photography, videography
The skin reacting to the fine point of a needle, meeting it before spilling over the edge in one pierced motion.
Scratching tissues and inflamed tonsils, the bright pink underbelly of your intestines.
Squished into a place, squirming.
A gauze slowly drawing life from the skin, its fragility slowly marked by the bloody ochre of a humans heart.
Blood flowing throughout the body again and again and again, returning, meeting, rejoining.
An army of dots, clotting together to create the slash of a knife on the surface of bodies. The meeting of skin to other, creating dimples and bruises
as clusters rush to the surface.
This piece explores the limits of jewelry, provoking a sense of discomfort in the wearer and the audience. How can jewelry be made in an unwearable way? The piece highlights a typically unexplored facet of the human body, the collarbone, wrapping, bracing, and clawing to the structure. Tendrils of brass drip down to bloody ends, connecting to aspects of piercing and grotesque imagery. Liquid wine contrasts a darkness in emotional tone with a fragility of materials. Thin members stretched between “pierced” rings rip and tear, and minimal rings drape along the skin, barely holding on to their neighbor. The work challenged me to explore the possibilities of controlled patina and combinations between metalwork and other materials.
