SLOVENIA

Primary school Ivan Cankar

Presentation by our students

Our school is named after a great Slovenian writer called Ivan Cankar, who was born in Vrhnika. There are over 1000 students at our school and the classes are held in 4 different buildings.

The school was first founded in 1796. Only kids with rich parents had a chance to go to this school. During the first and second world war it was used as a military hospital, military office and as a place where soldiers stayed.

In the year 1945 normal school lessons were held again. Soon after, lessons were held in two different buildings. One was called the same as today and the other was named Primary school Janez Mrak (a courier for our resistance fighters during the World War 2). Later they were joined into one of the biggest primary schools in Slovenia.

In our school we have a rich library, modern computer room and nice teachers. The halls are colorful and the bell doesn’t ring but it has nice and soft music that relaxes the students. We also have a lot of extracurricular activities that inspire the students.

If the students want to learn more, they can take extra classes. You can also learn 4 different languages, English, French, German and Italian. We really enjoy learning here and we hope we will be able to share many of our experiences with you.
