In the scope of the environmental awareness actions planned by Sintra City Council, awareness actions are being carried out in the Serra de Sintra.

The overall objective is to promote inclusive citizenship through sustainable behavior models, these actions are directed at schools and involve activities related to tree planting, eradication of invasive species, clearing in forest areas and habitat restoration .

In a partnership between the Municipality of Sintra, Association “Plantar uma árvore” and “Monte da Lua” Parks of Sintra, the municipal schools accepted the invitation to participate in the "Mãos na Serra" activity, promoting the rehabilitation of the forest area.

The Building Solar XXI complements the efforts of INETI's Department of Renewable Energies to design and build a building that could constitute an ex-libris of energy efficiency in buildings and the use of renewable energies.

The project associates a strategy of optimization of the surrounding to the use of solar systems, active and passive, in which the integration of photovoltaic systems in the façades with thermal utilization and a system of passive cooling by the soil stands out.

With the use of these strategies, it is expected that the thermal comfort conditions of the building will be ensured by reducing or canceling any energy consumptions for this purpose.

Solar Building XXI will be an example to follow in the construction of Buildings in Portugal, leading to a technological change that will necessarily occur in the present Century.
