These videos are intended for students who can successfully play each exercise up to #118 in the Essential Elements method book.
When playing above throat tone Bb, always remember:
High tongue position (like a hissing cat)
Fast air
Firm embouchure (without biting)
Cover each hole completely with the pads of your fingers
We learn high E. Make sure you are on at least a strength 3.0 reed.
Remember that the movement to open your register key should be small and effortless. Your left thumb is always in contact with the register key.
We learn high D. Pay careful attention to your right hand's fingers. They are prone to slipping away from their assigned hole.
Focusing on a light articulation will be helpful here.
We learn high F. Remember to check your key signature.
We are getting higher up in the register. Keep that air moving through the clarinet!
We learn high F#. Double check your key signature and your fingering for our new note.
Pay careful attention to accidentals and your key signature in this exercise.
We learn middle C. Make sure you are pressing the correct pinky in your right hand for this exercise.
This exercise applies many of the concepts we have learned in this video series. Make sure to pay careful attention to accidentals, your key signature, and the dotted-quarter rhythms.
We review the technique of "shading" throat tones. It is not just helpful for tone and intonation. It can make switching between throat tones and notes in the upper register easier as well.
If you have mastered each number in this video series, you should be ready to move on to other notes in the upper register. Check out the Pinky Trainer section for help with those notes.
