Students listen to the story to aid and assist in their understanding/ review of how to use the restroom. Please feel free to read the story and review it with your students.
In our classroom we give a #1 with our fingers to indicate that we need to use the restroom.
We must always tell an adult we are going to the restroom.
Once we have permission, we need to knock on the door, and say "Is anyone in there". If no one responds we can go right in; however, if someone says "yes", we must wait outside.
In addition to the story, I added an extra page informing students that if they make a mess on the toilet to wipe it off, so that all our friends have a nice clean seat for their gluteus maximus (the largest buttock muscle). You may hear your students say gluteus maximus here and there. I use it to refer to their bottoms!
Students have access to these visuals within the bathroom walls to help remind them to flush and wash their hands.
