In this world, Earth has two additional continents situated in the middle of the Pacific ocean, which is in this world called the Balboan ocean. They are Cipangu and Magellania. Millions of years ago they have separated independently from Pangea and created their own isolated ecosystems, until once again joining together.
Humans have reached these continents thousands of years ago and established a plethora of diverse cultures and traditions.
Cipangu is the name of the northern one of the two continents. In the north it stretched into the Bering sea and almost joins with Eurasia. This point of contact has allowed animals and peoples alike to migrate over, connecting the two ecosystems. Like its animals and plants, the people of Cipangu originate from Siberia. As much as Columbus wanted to find India, successive explorers desired to find Japan. In the middle of the Pacific ocean they found a landmass and called it Cipangu.
Magellania is the southern of the two continents. Unsurprisingly it was named after Ferdinand Magellan himself. Magellania's flora and fauna are much more distant than those of Cipangu. For most of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic the microcontinent was isolated from other landmasses and has only come into proximity to Cipangu in the late Cenozoic. The people of Magellania mostly originate from maritime South East Asia and are of the same origin as the Austronesians of our world.
Mu is a name of a speculative landmass that was coined during the 19th century, alongside others such as Lemuria. This project was ultimately inspired by this speculative continent, but it is not a recreation of it, but its own thing. The name Mu does exist in this world as well, but it is not used widely.
