The two continents of Cipangu and Magellania feature a plethora of different climatic and ecological regions and thus harbor a menagerie of different flora and fauna. Due to their geological history, both continents feature vastly different sets of animals and plants. Cipangu is closely connected, but still somewhat isolated, from the Eurasian and North American mainland. Magellania's ecosystem on the other hand is the result of over a hundred million years of isolation.
The Cipanguan ecosystem is part of the larger Holarctic floran and faunal province. It is characterized by varying degrees of isolation and connection to the Eurasian and North American continents. There was never a proper landbridge between these continents, like there was in Beringia. Thus the arriving organisms were filtered through being able to swim or raft from island to island. As such some groups are absent, while others thrive on Cipangu.
The ecosystem of Magellania originates in the Triassic, during the break up of Pangea. It was already sufficiently isolated during the Triassic-Jurassic mass extinction and preserved a unique and isolated ecological province through the Mesozoic. This original collection of organisms included Triassic non-mammalian synapsids, pseudosuchians and primitive birds that managed to gain a foothold on Magellania during the Mesozoic. Since the late Paleogene Magellania has shifted close enough towards Cipangu to allow for biotic interchange. Many native Cipanguan organism have since then made their home on Magellania as well. However the large desert and the isolated eastern part of the continent act as strong filter for the introduction of new organisms from Cipangu.
