AMF taxonomy has changed drastically over the past two decades due to the use of molecular characters to define taxa at different levels within the taxonomic hierarchy. As a result, a proliferation of new taxa, from species to class, has been observed, some of which lack appropriate phylogenetic support.
The list of species with their authors as well as the number of species is presented on the following pages separated by family. We follow the recent publication by Wyjayawardene et al. (2018) (Fungal Diversity 92:43-129, 2018), which presents an updated compilation of the basal taxa in Fungi.
