Courageous Sailing

Requirements: CHS students ages 14 and older. US work authorization is required

Description: Courageous Sailing is a youth leadership organization in the Charlestown Navy Yard. We are looking for interns to learn how to sail, assist in powerboat and sailboat maintenance, prepare for college/future careers, participate in STEM education, nonprofit development, and other areas of small business operation. We also go on field trips such as the U.S. Coast Guard base, the USS Constitution, Harbor Islands, and more!

Commitment/Pay: Earn $15 an hour, working Tuesdays and Wednesdays from October 6th to April 28th. This is an entry level position for anyone interested in learning more about the ocean, boats, and small businesses!

Want to learn more? Meet with Courageous Sailing in the CHS cafeteria during lunch on September 16 or 23, and/or attend an orientation at Courageous Sailing in the Charlesotwn Navy Yard on September 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 26th, or 27th between 3:45-5:00pm.

YES WInter Leadership Corps

Deadline: October 5 (or earlier if spots fill up)

Requirements: Grades 9-12, age 14 or older. You do NOT need US work authorization to apply.

Description: Winter Leadership Corps is a great opportunity for youth who want to build leadership skills, prepare for future jobs and careers, meet other young people, and get outside this winter. No previous skiing or snowboarding experience is required.

As a Winter Leadership Corps member, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Build job readiness, leadership, and social-emotional skills
Learn to ski or snowboard, regardless of your experience level
Receive FREE seasonal ski/snowboard equipment rentals
Participate in trips to the mountains on select weekends
Receive one-on-one college and career advising
Access a scholarship opportunity for graduating seniors

Commitment: The program meets once a week from October 19th until April, with additional mountain trips on select weekends.

Digital Ready Fall Program

Deadline: Ongoing until spots are filled

Requirements: Ages 16-25. You do not need US work authorization to apply, but it may be required to get paid.

Description: Get paid to learn STEM skills in one of Digital Ready's studios: clean energy, electrical, biotechnology, manufacturing, robotics/AI, or architecture/engineering/construction.

Commitment/Pay: The program is after-school from 3-6pm on certain days in the week (depending on your chosen studio). Students earn a stipend.

ACE Mentor Program

Requirements: Grades 9-12. You do not need US work authorization to apply.

Description: Learn hands-on architecture, construction, and engineering skills by working on projects with professionals. You can also earn a scholarship if you continue with the program until you graduate!

Commitment/Pay: The program is after-school once a week and is FREE for students. You can choose which day and location to join.

DCR Lifeguarding

Requirements: 16+, Lifeguard certification, US work authorization/social security number required

Description: Lifeguards needed for state parks and beaches!

BIKES NOT BOMBS - BIKE INSITUTE

Description: In BNB’s Youth Programs, participants have the opportunity to learn everything from basic bike maintenance and city riding to all the skills needed to work as a bicycle mechanic. BCYF Lifeguard Training

Angell Animal Hospital VOlunteering

Requirements: Age 16 or older

Description: Angell Animal Medical Center is a fast-paced, 24 hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital. We are located at 350 S. Huntington Ave. in Boston, Massachusetts.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers who are interested in contributing to the daily operations of the Angell Animal Medical Center. This is a unique experience to become exposed to the field of animal medicine while assisting staff with various tasks.

Volunteer assignments may include the following:

Seeing how an animal hospital runs behind the scenes
Greeting, escorting, and engaging with hospital clients in our visiting hour program
Helping tackle our mountain of laundry
Cleaning cages, restocking food, and washing dishes in our inpatient wards
Participating in our comfort care program - an opportunity for our experienced volunteers to help comfort and sooth hospitalized pets in need of some companionship

Commitment: 6 month commitment, with shifts at least twice per month on a consistent schedule.

Teen Urban Tree Corps

Requirements: Ages 14-18. US work authorization is required.

Description: Our Teen Urban Tree Corps (TUTC) program provides paid work and a chance to explore environmental careers for Boston teens, aged 14-18. Participants gain hands-on experience through tree care, field trips, and talks from professionals in green jobs. There are two paid sessions each year: the summer program and the school-year program.

Both programs engage with local youth organizations through learning exchanges. These exchanges allow Boston youth to share the work they do and broaden their network within and across their neighborhoods.
Through field trips to locations such as the Harvard Forest, Arnold Arboretum, and the Boston Nature Center participants learn from professionals working in green spaces across Massachusetts.
