The Immigrant Youth Advancement (IYA) Program provides leadership training and hands-on experience to immigrant youth. Through this program, youth are paired with nonprofits to gain life skills to earn a scholarship as community leaders.
The eligibility requirements for the program are:
Youth must be between the ages of 14 to 24
Youth must be residents of the City of Boston
Youth must currently be enrolled in high school, post-secondary education, or a GED/HiSET/Alternative Education program
You do NOT need to have a Social Security number or US work authorization

Description: Are you a high school student passionate about science? Dive into hands- on biomedical research, develop critical thinking skills, and build a strong foundation for your future in healthcare or STEM careers. The six-week program combines virtual sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with in-person lab experiences on Thursdays, providing students with valuable hands-on learning and a $450 stipend upon completion.
Commitment/Pay:
Late March to early May
3 days a week after school (2 online and one in person)
High School students work up to max 10 hours per week, paid $450 at the end of the program

Pillars of S.T.E.A.M. (ages 11 to 14) provides middle school youth the opportunity and space to play, grow and learn about careers within the STEAM field through information and hands-on activities.
Eastie Achievers (ages 15 to 19) provides opportunities to learn, grow, and gain leadership experience within the community while working with children age 5 and younger

Description: Pathways is Girls Who Code’s free, virtual summer program for high school girls and nonbinary students to explore tech, build in-demand skills, and create projects that make a difference—no experience required!
Over seven weeks of flexible learning (June 29-August 14, 2026), students can choose from courses like AI, cybersecurity, game design, data science, and web development, while connecting with peers and industry mentors.

Description: The Possible Zone is a fun STEAM-infused entrepreneurship youth development program, where students launch their own business and prepare for any future career. Students have access to a state-of-the-art technology makerspace and media studio, as well as free food and snacks.
Commitment/Pay: Students commit to coming 2 days a week on Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:00-6:30pm. Location: 31 Heath Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
Students are paid $24 for every session they attend!

Description: JEA is an afterschool and summer program where 8th-12th graders have the opportunity to:
Train in an Afro-Latin art form (either Dance, Music, or Theatre)
Receive free access to Mentoring and Tutoring and College/Career Exploration
Participate in Civic Engagement Workshops
Experience Optional Socio-Emotional Support
Get access to free resources such as (Hygiene & Menstrual products, Perishable food items, Household Necessities, Holiday Resources, and other personal or family needs as they arise)
Commitment/Pay: In Person (30 Sunnyside St, Jamaica Plain). The program is free in the school year, and students get paid in the summer.

Description: Join a FREE mentoring and college readiness program for high school students. You will meet new people and receive support from a mentor during the school year. In the summers, you will have the opportunity to join an outdoor wilderness / camping adventure in sophomore year, and an international trip or US college campus trip in your junior year.
