Applications are open now for the U.S. Department of State’s full scholarships for American high school students and recent graduates to study abroad! Programs include:
National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y): offers summer and academic year intensive overseas language immersion programs. NSLI-Y languages include Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, and Turkish. (Application deadline: November 4, 2024)
YES Abroad: offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of one of 14 countries for an academic year (10 months). The YES Program focuses on countries with significant Muslim populations. Participants develop critical global leadership skills, promote mutual understanding, and form lasting ties in their host communities by living with a host family and attending local high school. (Application deadline: December 4, 2024)
FLEX Abroad: Like YES Abroad, participants spend an academic year (10 months) living with a host family, attending a local high school, and forming lasting relationships within their host community. Host countries include Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Poland. (Application deadline: December 4, 2024)
