May 2023

After a few months being homeless due to hotel refurbishment, we are delighted to return to the Holiday Inn in Sutton - we are trialling different formats to our meetings. 

February 2023

Our End Polio Now Croci are starting to bloom at the Cheam Memorial Garden .  These represent the painting of children's little finger in purple ink to signify that they have received the Polio virus.  

Rotary is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates FOundation double matching our fundraising worldwide to End Polio See www.endpolio.org

2022 saw Polio found in water samples in the UK and we know that the only way to stop it is to eliminate it.  In recent years there have been just hadfulls of cases - although COVID saw a rise, as the vaccination teams were unable to do their work on polio whilst supporting COVID protections instead.


Quiz Night 

Our annual New Year Quiz in aid of Youth charities took place at Sutton Grammar school. Our popular quizmaster lead the evening which raised £1,300.

January 2023

We had fantastic news at our annual Xmas presentation evening - announcing that we were donating £15,100 to our nominated and partner charities.  This comes from all our Xmas activities including the Cheam Xmas evening,, shop collections, and our Santa's Sleigh.  Most of the charities attended and told everyone about what they were doing and how they were planning to use the donation(s).

Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fnd we were able to launch a sewing project and are now celebrating 10 months.  Click here for more 

Tree Planting for the Queen's Green Canopy Project

Also in December we planted a tree we sponsored for the Jubilee Copse joining Friends of Oaks Park for the Queen's Green Canopy Project.  It is a lovely cherry tree and we look forward to seeing it bloom in future years.

We are always excited at this time of year as we get ready to announce the Santa's Sleigh Routes for the year Below is the outline start and finish points.  Only a few years ago that is all that was published but now we will publish maps,  daily routes (on Facebook) and an A-Z of roads.  On the night we will have a Santa Tracker so you can follow our progress.  Watch this space......

We have raised £1,650 and gave to Water Survival Box Ltd for the purchase of 11 Water Survival Boxes to be sent to Pakistan as part of Rotary’s relief effort.

September

We participated in the Eco Fair showcasing our environmental activities: promoting Young Environmentalist Competition and distributing Morsbags and Stop Food Waste Tips.

August

We have supported Ukrainian guests in Sutton with donations to the Sutton Council for the purchase of supermarket vouchers for the Ukrainian guests to help with the weekly Drop-In meetings (A total of £3,000)

For the Ukrainian Day celebrations we supported with £750 to help and fund educational needs. 

We are also supporting the Moshchun Project in Ukraine which will provide temporary housing to people whose house were destroyed by war, while their own homes are being repaired. (£500)

Our thanks go to Alison Rouse who joined our Just Giving Campaign for Ukraine and raised £475


We are also one of the supporters of the Moldova School Toilets Project and our contribution has been recognised.

The Rotary year starts off today as world wide one team hands over to another.  

Not only do we welcome Angeles as our new President, but also our worldwide President Jennifer Jones from Canada.  She asks everyone to "Imagine Rotary" - so imagine what Rotary can do, what you can do for Rotary and what Rotary can do for you.  

Rotary has driven the worldwide erradication of Polio and is really in that very tough last mile where the numbers are counted on two hands, but we mustn't stop.

This week until 5th June we are joining forces with Wallington Rotary at the inviation of Zippos Circus in collecting after selected performances in thier BIG TENT.  We are collecting to support Ukrainian Refugees locally.

Cheam and Sutton Rotary would like to thank everyone who has donated to our appeal to support those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

To date we have raised in excess of £7000 which has been pooled with money raised by other clubs in our District to directly fund the efforts of Rotarians in Poland, Romania and Moldova to provide supplies and emergency accommodation to the refugees arriving from Ukraine, and to help The International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals purchase urgently needed medical supplies.

Whilst many of you will have already given to one of the many charities helping refugees from this conflict, could we ask that if you are considering making a further donation could you consider making a donation to Rotary’s efforts by giving to our Just Giving Campaign www.justgiving.com/campaign/Rotary4Ukraine

As well as continuing to support the efforts of Rotarians in the countries bordering Ukraine we will also be helping Ukrainian refugees as they arrive in the UK.

We are  collecting in Sutton Town Centre on Saturday 12th March in Aid of Ukraine - all funds will go directly via the Rotary Network very quickly to Rotary teams in surrounding countries to provise essential aid and support for Refugees.

Tonight we held our annual club quiz which was won by the team Telstar Reunited.  This was mostly our satelite group who enjoy a coffee on alternate Saturday at Yourspace - Sutton in Seaars Park in Cheam whilst planning their next activity.

Santa had a fabulous time on the Cheam and Sutton Rotary Sleigh and thanks everyone in for their support.

Santa's back.....Our worker Elves have been out getting our Sleigh Ready for its first departure from the North Pole on 1st December.  Stay tuned for more information about dates and routes

We are back - celebrating getting together for the first time fully since March 2020.  We are planning to meet aback at our old venue at the Holiday Inn, London Sutton.

Our first club Crazy Golf night was enjoyed by many members and was a great success.  Our webmaster won on the count, but everyone won for a night of fun as day moved into night.

Every July we welcome a new year of Rotary service and innaugurate a new President.This year after a very clever virtual on line handover in 2020, we briefly met in the Cheam Memorial Garden to exchange club officer badges.  It was great to be able to catch with some who's tech skills have seen them absent from many of the online activities.

We held an excellent Virtual Race Night on Saturday 15th May 2021 to raise money towards buying a Bugzi to give a young child mobility.  A considerable sum was raised towards our appeal.

We held our annual quiz night on Friday 29th January online instead of the usual large hall.  It went incredibly well with Team Telstar winning with a late drive.  Most importantly we raised over £800 for our Youth Charities to fund activities for the Young Carers and Rotary Kids Out.

Welcome to 2020 Our Xmas activities were a great success - we were able to take Santa's Sleigh around the streets (without the collections) on 5 of the planned 9 nights (covering 10 of the usual 18 routes).  The Sleigh also visited the Children's Trust on a couple oif occasions.  Santa had an online Grotto and welcomed many kids to it.  This included several sessions with the Sutton Women's Centre, with whom we have been working in 2020.

Today we are at the Wallington Farmer's market promoting our new Environment initiatives.  The Morsbags initiative is making waves for upcycling material into reuseable bags.  We have also being promoting our Young Environmentalist Competition.

Since the lockdown commenced we have been active online holding weekly catchups as well as other project meetings. 

We have been fundraising through Lockdown Quizzes, Bingo, a Beetle Drive and even a held a Lockdown Winetasting.

Our Satellite group have been leading the way and have been supporting the Sutton Women's Centre with weekly deliveries of food
