History

Cheam and Sutton Rotary is a part of Rotary International, a worldwide organisation founded in 1905, based on the principles of friendship, service to the community and the promotion of peace and international understanding. It is a new club with a long history.

In 2016, the Rotary Club of Sutton and the Rotary Club of Cheam decided to merge to form a club with larger membership numbers and a wider footprint in the community.

The Rotary Club of Sutton dates back to 1923 and is the mother club of Cheam Rotary which was formed in 1955. It was the first club in the Borough and has been the founding Club (or the Mother Club) of the many other Clubs in the area. 2023 will be the centenary of Rotary coming to Sutton.

Cheam and Sutton Rotary is known in the community for its Santa’s Sleigh and the Rotary May Fair.

Every Christmas period, it is traditional for our Santa Sleigh to tour the streets and bring seasonal cheer and joy to the streets of Cheam, Sutton and Worcester Park. Rotary May Fair started as a village fair and every late May Bank holiday it took place in Cheam Recreational Area from 1977 until 2019 inclusive. The Fair had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic and has not been revived, but instead we can be found at many of Sutton's local Fetes and Fairs with our Hoopla stall, Craft stalls and and other games.

The Club concentrates in helping the community. All funds raised with various activities is donated to local charities to make a difference in the community.
