One of the main aims of Rotary is to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty.
In past years we have funded the provision of education facilities in Botswana and Turkey. Recently we have been supporting the Rotary’s Sand Dams project in Kenya.
Sand Dams are built across seasonal rivers to collect and store rainwater in drylands. Sand Dams provide safe water for life and the opportunity to grow enough food to eat, store and sell, thus transforming the lives of people in the area.
Sand Dams establish sustainable supplies of clean water and safer sanitation provisions, which improves health and supports local agriculture and economies.
Cheam and Sutton Rotary is currently supporting the planting of trees among the Sand Dams in Kenya to protect the surroundings against erosion.
