levelling
levelling is the process of changing the level of volumes of each instrument and vocals to make sure nothing overpowers each other. Levelling gives us a good starting point to move on to the next step of mixing.
to begin we set everything to 0 and then set the main vocals at 6, nothing should go above the vocals for our song as the vocals are one of the main focus.
we then added each instrument one at a time to make it sound the best it can be at this point,
overall nothing should go above....... this is because the master mix needs space and headroom to be able to mix it effectively.
panning
panning is the process of moving the instruments. we do this so the sound from each instrument isn't on top of each other and doesn't get in each others way. vocals and bass should stay in the centre. where each instrument sits depends on the genre, for example for drum and bass and jungle the kick and bass wold typically stay in the centre.
EQ
EQ (Equalization) is a fundamental music production and live sound utility, equalizing the balance of different frequencies in an audio signal. EQ can be used to control timbre of instruments, vocals, and overall mixes for balance and clarity through boosting or cutting defined frequency ranges. For example, low frequency cut removes muddiness, while high frequency boost adds brightness and presence. EQ is used to eliminate unwanted resonances, introduce tonal characteristics, and give every element in a mix its own space. Whether utilized in recording, mixing, or live sound, mastering EQ is crucial to achieve a professional-sounding product.
sweep technique
Sweep method is a favorite technique used in EQ adjustments to identify unwanted or desired frequencies in a mix. It involves selecting a small Q (bandwidth), raising the gain significantly, and then slowly sweeping through the frequency range to identify resonances, harsh tones, or muddiness. Unwanted frequency can be cut or reduced once found to make the sound clearer and balanced. Conversely, this technique can also be used to find and enhance pleasant frequencies to generate warmth, presence, or brightness. Sweep technique is especially useful for sound design and mixing so that engineers and producers can fine-tune sound for a cleaner and more refined sound.

Music Production Evaluation
A successful music production project must be measured by a combination of artistic impact, technical quality, and audience acceptance. The following are three primary criteria
1. Emotional & Artistic Impact– Does the final track evoke the intended emotions and artistic vision? A successful production must properly reflect the artist's or producer's creative intent, delivering the right mood, energy, and storytelling elements.
2. Technical Excellence– Is the mix and master sonically refined? The production should be well-balanced in its mix, clear in all the elements, and professionally mastered to sound good on different playback systems (headphones, car speakers, clubs, etc.).
3. Audience Engagement & Reach– Is the music connecting with its target audience? This could be measured by streams, inclusion on playlists, fan reaction, or social media metrics. Even a niche audience, significant listener engagement is a measure of success.
I don't think that the track is similar to a real world track as its definitely not up to the standard to a real world track. Although I definitely learnt a lot from this term with music production I think that the more I practice mixing and recording, I should become better at it and start to create more high quality music.
In our recording we decided to do acoustic guitar and drums first as we think its the building blocks of the song. This also helps with timing and rhythm for the electric guitar and vocals. after a couple recording sessions we did go back and re record some parts of the drums and all of the electric guitar but we were still able to keep a steady rhythm as the acoustic guitar followed the original drum pattern.
My favourite feature of the track is the acoustic guitar. This is because this instrument really stands out because of billy's playing style and how it drives the song the whole way through. It majorly helps change ethe mood throughout the song. The main flaws in our track was that it was overall quite a "boring" and uninteresting song. I think that we could of prevented this by changing the vocal style and instrumentals in the chorus. This would of made it more interesting and enjoyable to record and play, as well as being more enjoyable to listen to. If we had more time it might of been better to add another verse or bridge to change the mood/ instrumentals to make the song less repetitive and sound better for the listeners.
Throughout this project I learnt the basics of what mics is better suited to record each instrument. the basics of how to mic up and record each instrument, and how to mix our finished recording.
During this project I've majorly improved my recording skills, while doing this I've realised how much I enjoy working in the studios and learning how to record other people. I could use these skills in the future in case I wanted to record my own songs, if I wanted to work in music production and if I wanted to record something for my FMP. I think that the point of this project was to teach us the basics of how a studio works so we could improve on our own accord and have the creative freedom to record an original song. This also gave us experience with working with different people in the studios and taught us our to overcome problems inside the studio.
Although it wasn't my favourite project I do think that this project was a success as I've learnt and overcome situations that come with writing a song as a band. Overall it was a success as we still have a finished final product that we learnt something from.
