Headphones,
2x AKG C1000 or 2x rOD m5, we will use these as over heads it just depends which ones are available to us at the time.
3x Sennheiser e604, perfect for toms since can pick up a large range of frequencies,
1x shure SM57, perfect for snare drums.
1x AKG D112. good at picking up lower frequencies so will use for bass drum.
Producer:
Logic,
Usb stick.
Plan
to avoid breaking equipment we need to make sure all mic stands are stable and aren't broken. make sure all mics are safely.
For our first session i would like to spend 10 minutes setting the mics up for the drums, for this I would like to use 2x AKG C1000 or 2x rod m5, 3x Sennheiser e604, 1x Shure SM57, and 1x AKG D112. We can get these at the start of our session by asking Andy. while we wait for someone to get these the rest of us can work on setting the stands up for the mics and setting up the logic project. This should all take max 15 minutes but we would ideally like this done in 10.
After this we want to take a few takes with the drums to make sure all the mics sound the way we want them to and to check everything is working properly.
After doing sound check we want to take a few recordings of the drums for the whole song and then we will pick the best out of what we have for now.
After this we wanted to record the bass, while recording the drums billy and phoenix should be setting up the DI box and tuning the bass as we can record the bass in the room with the logic project.
after we have picked what drum track we will use we are going to record the bass. we want to record this until we get the one we are happy with.
after this if we decide we need to change anything with the drums we would still have time to. If not we will save what we have gotten for that session on to a USB and keep that safe for the next session.
we should all be taking photos and videos from this session to put on our website.
we should all be helping to pack down all the mic and mic stands where we found them, and take the mics back to Andy. this should take no more than 5/10 minutes. if we have found any broken equipment we should tell Andy or another member of staff.
Recording session two
Objectives: record Madi's vocals for song one
Job Roles:
Billy- helping set the equipment up and putting away and helping run the logic project.
Madi- singing and being recorded
Phoenix- helping set the equipment up and putting away and helping run the logic project.
Charlotte- helping set the equipment up and putting away and helping run the logic project.
Equipment:
Rode NT2A- on the rode website the microphone is described as a "Multi-pattern Large-diaphragm Condenser Microphone. The NT2-A is a highly versatile large-diaphragm studio condenser microphone designed to offer pristine audio quality" which is why we will use this to record vocals.
pop shield, pop shields reduce the amount of sibilance and "popping" sounds that come out of vocalists when singing.
cradle, this reduces the amount of sound vibrations that can be picked up from the mic stand and the mic itself.
mic stand,
logic,
USB stick.
Plan
to avoid breaking equipment we need to make sure all mic stands are stable and aren't broken. make sure all mics are safely.
While me, billy and phoenix set up the logic and the mic Madi should be warming up her vocals and looking over her lyrics to try and get the best version of her voice before mixing. This should take about 10 minutes max but it depends on when everyone arrives and how long Madi takes for vocal warm ups.
After this we want to take multiple takes to make sure we get the mic placement right to get the best sound possible and to make sure Madi is comfortable. Doing multiple takes means that we have an opportunity to experiment with different lyrics, harmonies, layers, and melodies.
After getting that sorted we would like to spend most of our lesson time taking multiple takes of Madi singing so we can pick the best recording.
After that we need to remember to take photos and videos of what we have done and then put everything away where we found them.
We also need to remember to save our logic project onto the USB.
