My musical journey/ Bio:
All my life I have Grown up in a family which has always been supportive in most hobbies and decisions I have made which I have always and will always be grateful for.
In 2014 my granny bought me a completely purple violin. Her main aim had always been to get me to play the violin or something similar, because of this I enrolled in Violin lessons for 2/3 years. even though I did enjoy playing the instrument I always found it slightly uninteresting at times. During this time I also moved to a school which did not provide any music tuition which was the main reason why I did stop learning the instrument. Although a part of me wished I kept at playing the violin, I have zero regrets as I might of never played the drums.
In 2018, I started to go to a local youth centre after school with some of my friends at the time. At this youth centre they had a small music room which had a drum kit and some recording equipment. There was someone that volunteered there that taught me the basics on the drums, because of this I started to show a massive interest towards the instrument.
After this for Christmas I was given a 2nd hand red drum kit with a yellow snare and a bag of mismatched half broken sticks, I don't think I has ever been so excited over a gift before. shortly after I started having lessons at JJ's Arts Academy and have never regretted doing so.
Throughout secondary school i always enjoyed my music lessons and got involved in an in school band. Because of this I realised how much I loved playing in a group of people. We played in multiple school related events and played in a small event during the Devon county show.
My inspirations
Buddy rich-
Growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandad who is very musical and has helped massively in my interest in music. One name I always heard growing up was Buddy Rich, as I became older my interest in his style of drumming slowly grew. Buddy Rich is my drum idol because of his incomparable technical ability, energy, and musicality. You could feel every beat he hits with intensity and passion in a show. The speed and precision are something this world has never seen, but what separates him from the rest is the emotion with which he plays it. Buddy's style uniquely merges jazz virtuosity with an infectious groove to make Buddy's playing both exciting and musical. He was always raising the bar, and his innovativeness in drumming has influenced countless musicians, including myself.
John Bonham-
John Bonham is another my personal drumming inspiration because of the power, groove, and drive in his music. His playing with Led Zeppelin redefined rock music, creating aggressive yet deeply musical rhythms. What impresses me most about Bonham is his great sense of time and the ability to play with such power yet never lose control or precision. Bonham's playing is not all about the technicality; it's feeling and making the music come alive, and that's the thing I'd like to try to bring with me into my drumming. His approach to rhythm and his continuing impact on rock drumming motivate me to be inquisitive and explore new dimensions of sound.
Even though he does not play the drums my main inspiration and the person I will always look up to musically is Lesley Streeter, otherwise known as my Grandad! The one thing I will always be grateful for is my Musical interest which I can thank him for. Growing up music was his life due to loosing his mother young and having a blind father, learning about all his life experiences because of this and all the adventures and paths he's been though both musically and not music related, Has taught me taught me many different life lessons and ways that I live by. Growing up around him meant I was constantly around live music and inspirational people.
My Future Aspirations
In the future I would love to eventually end up tutoring drums and maybe teaching music as a whole. Before then I would like to try and gain more experience playing within bands and being in settings like a music studio. I want to be a music teacher because, for me, music has the magic to inspire, connect, and transform lives. Music has always been a huge part of who I am, and sharing that passion with others by helping students find their own love for the subject is important to me. Teaching would hopefully allow me to guide others in developing not only their musical skills but also their creativity, discipline, and self-expression. I also love the idea of being part of someone's musical journey, whether its helping them find their voice, learning an instrument, or experiencing the joy of playing together. As a music teacher, I would hope I'm able to give students the tools they need to find confidence in themselves and build a lifelong appreciation for music. It's one of those jobs that I believe you're capable of having a certain impact with. I have spoken about my career path in my project 5 task 1 work.
Performances I am proud of
This was my all time favourite song from our term one work. Almost all of my favourite songs I play outside of college are largely made up of led zeppelin and a lot of prog rock.
This was from an open evening. although not a great video it is still my favourite out of all the ones I have.
Although I have no videos or photos another moment I am proud of is playing at Devon county show with my secondary folk band. we also played at small town shows. some of the songs we played were: dancing in the moonlight by Thin Lizzy, white winter hymnal by fleet foxes and a few others.
