What did YOU contribute to your group?
During the band I more or less look a step back from decision making as there already was a lot of strong characters in our band, although I definitely expressed my own opinions, I thought it would avoid more unnecessary conflict. I felt I took more of the negotiator role to help everyone come to an agreement and to knock some people down a few pegs when they were getting a bit too hot headed. I always did try to help everyone communicate but it definitely was one of our weak points.
Discuss – do you think it is important to have a balance of roles within the band?
How did this work in your band? What roles did other people take on and did this result in a productive band?
I think it is very important to have a balance of roles as I think that structure can limit confusion.
VW- he took a lot of creative control with figuring out guitar parts and rhythms this worked quite well as he is extremely reliable and is very talented musically. he would always get everything finished by the deadlines and would always learn his parts before rehearsal.
FG- She was amazing at motivating everyone and was and is always a great person to be around and easy to work with. She has practically perfect rhythm on bass and on piano which made is easier for me as the drummer. she's great at explaining and breaking thinks down for me theory wise as I take slightly longer to process certain information. she definitely took a teacher role and was a great motivator.
MB- Very opinionated which in some ways was useful as it made us expand our genres.
GW-Very opinionated which in some ways was useful as it made us expand our genres.
Discuss what YOUR main STRENGTHS were in the band.
Why is this, have you done this before, why else were you good at this?
my main strength within the band was probably being a mediator. Although at times I would express my opinion I found it easier to try and help avoid conflict and try and get most people to get along. I have also been told that performance wise I would help people feel more confident and up peoples energy on stage.
How did this support the progress and development of the band and performance?
I find that the less arguments the better and without the conflict we would of had more time to focus on what we were doing. With the second part the more confident everyone is on stage the more likely the audience will enjoy the performance and the smoother and more enjoyable it would be for us.
Discuss what YOUR main WEAKNESSES were in the band.
Why were you weak at this? How did it impact on the band and others in the band?
my attendance is definitely a main weakness. the less amount of time people are in means the less prepared we are as we have less rehearsal time with each other.
What did you do to work on it and improve your work in this area?
when we were missing people or I wasn't in we would always update people in our band with what we have been practicing and what we have done with the people in rehearsal.
How could you improve your weaknesses for the next performance project?
Try to not let things outside of college affect what I'm doing in college and the time I'm in college.
What do you think the main STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSES were of the others in your band.
How did you try and support others’ weaknesses?
Thinking about working with others, what would you do differently next time?
(Use initials for student’s names like JP)
There was a lot of petty arguments between some people which made it unenjoyable at times. although most of us seemed to move on from it and be civil some people wouldn't let things go.
VW- he is very creative musically and was very organised and is something all of us can look up to in some way. Main weakness was his ego although was useful in some aspects would be a issue at times. I think what helped support this was having some strong opinions in our band so they wouldn't get too controlling. I would 100% work with him again, the only thing I would do if I worked with him again is too speak up more often if I didn't agree with certain things.
FG- She is extremely thoughtful and really fun to and easy to work with. One weakness is that she was too nice at times and definitely allowed people to walk over her. to help her with this there would be times where id have to defend and help her express her opinion with certain people. I would Love to work with her again as she's incredibly talented and is easy to work with.
GW- Great person to talk to and easy to get along with. does get very defensive so the way you word things plays a massive impact. we would have to change his parts a lot as sometimes would struggle to learn things outside of college. I would love to work with him again as although there were times where he wouldn't meet expectations, most of the time he would go above and beyond to make rehearsals fun and engaging
MB- Good singer can have great suggestions. Does feed into band conflict and doesn't tend to let things go. attendance wasn't great but neither was mine but we all kept in touch to avoid conflict. i would of worked with her again because she is a great singer.
