Final Project Title
Killer Beats: Sinister Cinema Scores
Final Project Summary
I am continuing to build on my mid-term project by creating three additional motion graphics movie scenes for a short documentary on horror film scores. The three new scenes will come together with the previous three mid-term scenes to create the full animated opening for the future doc.
Conceptual Idea
The concept of the film’s opening is to match the same look and style as the mid-term. The 2D animation features recreations of famous movie scenes. The style of those scene elements is a simple black silhouette on the same motion graphics background as the mid-term project. The camera will move into one scene and transition into the next scene. The final shot will reveal the title Killer Beats: Sinister Cinema Scores. The style is unique because I am hand-drawing the assets and animating them. I used the seven visual components of: Space, Tone, Color, Movement, Rhythm, Line & Shape to the 2D animations.
Influences
I am a fan of minimalist animation as seen in 1960s cartoons and Hitchcock movie dream sequences. Here are a few more examples that inspired the next phase of this project:
Efforts
The 2D animated assets were hand-drawn in Procreate then I imported the individual layers into Photoshop to clean them up. I imported all elements into After Effects. I created the titles and motion graphics for the background in AE as well. I imported the final HD version into Premiere and added the film scores and slate card. I edited the clips in Premiere and exported the final HD project. I then upscaled the HD video to 4k in Topaz for the final version.
Technicals
Project programs used:
