Welcome to the Writing Academy. Here, unlike rising through the ranks of Duel Academy by winning duels, you rise by writing.
This challenge is based off the GBA Game: Yu Gi Oh GX: Duel Academy. Like the game, you start as a student in Slifer Red, and go through your three years of school until climbing up to Obelisk blue, and then reaching graduation.
And although this is based off the GX games, the fics can be for any of the yugioh fandoms!
Some FAQs
- The Dorms: you'll start at Orisis, and certain events will unlock entry into Ra, and then Obelisk. While you don't have to accept the new rank straight away, some of the tasks will require you to be of a certain rank before you can proceed. Being an Orisis will give you shorter tasks, but at some point you will have to proceed.
- The word limits: this relates to your dorm. As an Orisis, you will only be able to write chapters under 1500 words (note that I said chapters; your overall fic may be longer). Once you get into Ra, your chapters will have to be 1500-4000 words, and once you're in Obelisk, over 4000 words.
- The Random Duels: these are also important in unlocking certain events to help you proceed. Each will come with two tasks; you flip heads or tails, and then proceed with whichever task you get. You'll get a certain minimum score for it, but there'll also be cards available that you have the option of including - including a special one that will give you the "win" if you've included it. As soon as it's guessed right, it will change - so don't bother trying to peak ahead and guessing it. :D
- Winning a random duel: you will pass a random duel by passing the task laid out for you, and then flipping a coin once you're done with your task and scoring a heads. If you get a tails, redo the task until you get a heads.
- Timed duels: these are the only timed tasks in the challenge, and I expect you to be honest about them.
- Exams: since I didn't feel like quizzing you guys, we'll do something else instead. Exams will consist of you reading and reviewing your fellow (or previous) students' works. The number/length of the works depends on which exam you're taking. If there are no fics you are able to review at the time, either because they're all your fics, or you've reviewed all of them, or all the ones you haven't have warnings you won't touch with a ten foot pole, then you'll get a review-debt - which you'll have to fill before you graduate. The list will be below the Events Guide.
- The Events Order: you'll have to do most of these (except some of the random duels) in order, but there'll be a guide below the Participants list to help you guys out. My advice is to not read ahead too much, as it might confuse what you're doing now.
