Life at an animal camp is always an adventure! But for those who want to step it up a bit, Cub Creek offers several specific adventure courses and classes that are aimed to please. These activities are some of camp's most popular activities with full classes! They are offered multiple times a day and multiple times a week. Our Survival and Camping courses give campers the skills they need to comfortably and safely navigate the great outdoors.
In this week-long course, campers learn the basics of survival out in the wild! They'll learn how to find water, build a fire, and create a shelter. This all culminates in a voluntary survival campout, which allows campers to put their skills to the test!
This course is available to juniors and seniors. The capstone survival campout is for seniors only.
The goal of this class is to learn how to start a fire with nothing but what you can find in the woods. Campers will learn that a sustainable fire takes knowledge, time, and a whole lot of patience.
Campers will learn to blend in with their environment by using woodland camouflage, then they'll spend some time learning some essential outdoor knife skills.
Using sticks, leaves, and tarps, campers are challenged to build a strong and sturdy shelter. With different methods, campers learn how to protect themselves from all the elements during a night in the woods.
Spending time in the woods requires attention to detail and knowledge of how to guide yourself without the help of a modern GPS! Campers will learn how to use a map and compass to find different objects hidden around camp.
The capstone of the senior survival skills course is when campers test their skills at an all night survival campout. They will build their own fire, cook their own supper, and sleep in their own shelter. This experience is available for senior campers only.
Finding food and water in the woods is critical to long-term survival. In this class, campers will learn to differentiate between edible and non-edible plants. Additionally, they will learn of supplies and techniques necessary to make water safe to drink.
