An evening activity is scheduled for each night of the session. The first day of the session is always Opening Campfire and the last day is always skit night. At evening activity it is important that you be able to keep your campers engaged but also respectful of the person leading the activity. When you arrive to evening activity, you should be ready to go and arranged in cabin order. Cabin Order is how cabins are arranged according to age. The youngest girls always be farthest right from the speaker, and eldest boys or ASITs will always be furthest left.
We expect all campers are encouraged to participate and be included, and that you as staff do the same by leading by example. If you are excited and participating, your campers will do the same.

Friday Skit Night
This is the official start of a session! Games and songs around the roaring fire get us all in the camp spirit and ready to launch into the week. On this night, campers start or continue their bead collection. Beads are a tradition at Cub Creek that signify our time spent at camp, our knowledge gained, and our goals achieved. Every camper receives their yearly camp bead on this night. We recognize campers joining us for the first year, and those coming for their 10th year and more, and all our friends in between. Lori Martin will lead campfire and talk to campers about the rules and expectations of camp. Campers will get a chance to think about their dreams and fears for their week at camp. Cabins should bring their cabin blanket with them, and are seated in cabin order around the campfire.
Counselor Expectations:
Arrive on time, and have your campers seated on your cabin blanket ready for the start of campfire
Ensure campers are staying quiet and listening while others are talking
Hand-out beads as directed to campers
Help facilitate the 'Dreams and Fears' with campers
Be enthusiastic during songs and games.
This is an evening activity you'll find nowhere else! During Circle of Life, campers will have a new animal visit their cabin every 15-20 minutes, while they have a chance to hold and take their picture. Our ASITs, will be bringing these animals around and teaching campers about each animal they're accompanying.
Counselor Expectations:
Have campers ready and sitting in a circle in the common room when ASITs arrive
Ensure campers are staying quiet and listening to the ASITs when they are talking
Use positive language and be enthusiastic for every animal (even if you are a little nervous!)
After the ASITs leave, have campers wash their hands and then return to the common room.
On Campout Night, campers enjoy a night under the stars. The meal for the night is foil packs - a favorite for many of our campers and counselors. Our camp sites have pavilions that were built to allow campers to sleep in a hammock and be able to stay out no matter the weather. Roast marshmallows and mingle with friends from all the cabins. Camping out is an optional activity and campers have alternative sleeping options if wanted, however everyone should be encouraged to give it a try! Campout night is a busy night, but a highlight for many staff and campers. Embrace it, be organized and ready to ask for help if you need it.
Counselor Expectations:
Help campers pack for campout during siesta.
Assist with making foil packs
Build, light and maintain the fire
Actively interact with campers and keep them active and engaged in outdoor activities
Mckayla, a previous staff provided an extensive guide to campout. Some aspects may have changed since the making of the video (like the schedule and foil pack making), but we will camp out during staff training to cover everything.
5:30 pm Pack and Head to Camp sites
Head to your cabin to prepare to go to campsites. Make sure to re-apply bug spray and sunscreen! Each cabin should then walk their belongings to their camp site. When you arrive at the sites, Special Events Coordinator will have delivered your food coolers and other campout supplies.
5:45 pm Make Dinner and Desserts
Each cabin will use their individual fire pits to cook their cabin’s dinners and desserts. Campers will be assisted by counselors and ASITs to prepare their foil pack. Remind campers to save their plates, forks from dinner to use for dessert/smores. After dinner, campers can hang out in their hammocks, visit the rock throwing range, hike to the glade, tell campfire stories, and brainstorm for skit night.
8:00 pm Make S’mores
Each camper is allocated one s’more consisting of one marshmallow, two graham cracker squares, and one “pip” of chocolate. After all food waste has been collected, make sure it is all packed up in black trash bags (inside the coolers if possible) and stored in the bathrooms overnight (with the doors closed!).
9:00 pm Camp-in Campers Return to Cabins
Any campers who are not camping out at the camp sites, should be walked back to the designated cabin for camp-in. Camp-in campers sleep in a cabin together, one for seniors and one for juniors. Because they may be sleeping in a cabin other than their own, campers will sleep on the floor in their sleeping bags.
9:30 pm Bedtime
Bedtime should reflect each cabin’s age group. Keep in mind that noise can be heard from neighboring camp sites. Campsites 2 and 3 should be respectful of the younger campers sleeping at camp site 1.
7:00 am Rise and Shine
Counselors should help campers roll up their sleeping bags, roll and put away hammocks into the designated foot locker (NEATLY), empty out their drink cooler, and pick up any trash around the site and put it in their black trash bags. Campers should carry their items back up to their cabins when they leave the camp sites. Coolers and trash will be picked up by the Village Leaders.
* Inclement Weather In the event that your camp-out experience encounters a storm, please keep safety in the forefront of your mind. If a big storm is on its way to camp, Leadership and Management will come to the campsites to give specific directions. If there is a storm and there have not been directions given, please gather campers, account for everyone, and take shelter under your pavilions. Please do not walk to your cabins when it is lightning! As a good rule of thumb, you should stay under cover for at least 30 minutes after the last “boom” of thunder.
Each Thursday will be a different activity that rotates throughout the summer. The Special Events Coordinator will announce the activity at the start of the week. Rotating Activities may include Dutch Auction, Dino Egg Hunt, Pirate Regatta or Floop-a-Flar.
Counselor Expectations:
Arrive on time, and have your campers seated on your cabin blanket ready for the start of the activity
Ensure campers are staying quiet and listening while others are talking
Be enthusiastic and participate. Encourage all campers to join in
Help campers to follow the rules and play fairly
One of the oldest traditions of camp is our Friday evening Skit Night. Over the week, every cabin creates and practices their own skit. They then perform this skit on the last night of the session. Skits can be a traditional skit, original play, song, dance or other short performance. Skits should be no longer than 3 minutes. Be Creative and allow the campers to lead. Skit Night signifies the end of a session with a closing speech from camp's Director and the awarding of final beads. Campers in their last year of camp are recognized and given their final bead - The Legacy Bead.
Counselor Expectations:
Help campers prepare a cabin skit during the week, ready to perform on Friday
Arrive on time, and have your campers seated on your cabin blanket ready for the start of skit night
Participate in songs and games while waiting for other cabins to arrive
Ensure campers are staying quiet and listening while others are talking
Be enthusiastic and partcipate. Encourage all campers to join in
