RAF Lakenheath is a must for any aviation enthusiast. The airbase hosts the USAF's 48th Fighter Wing and their F-15Es and F-35As can be seen flying daily. In addition, other USAF and allied aircraft frequent the base as a stop on a longer journey, whether that be F-16s from Spangdahlem or Aviono or F-22s from Elmendorf.
The base is also a fantastic location for spotting due to the presence of a designated spotting area located on the north-east end of the base which is such a popular location that one local spotter even has his own burger truck there!
This was the first time I went spotting and it was a fantastic experience. The folks around the viewing area were very friendly and it was very active while I was there (a Thursday). For a first time spotter, the viewing area made the location very appealing in comparison to other bases which do not and require much more caution when spotting.
