On June 3rd 2026, the AV-8B Harrier II conducted its final flight in active duty service with United States Marine Corps Aviation, giving a final hoorah for the 40 year old aircraft. With the conclusion of this event, the legacy of the Harrier is cemented as one of the most versatile strike aircraft fielded by the USMC, continuing to serve with the Spanish and Italian navies.
The AME of Spain flew in four AV-8Bs for the USMC Harrier Sundown in order to participate in the celebrations. While these aircraft did not fly during the Sundown, they did conduct a formation pass and carrier break when flying into MCAS Cherry Point
